Founded in 1936, Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center is a private, nonprofit social service agency serving children, teens, seniors, and families in need in the north area of Sacramento. Our mission is to help build healthy communities through individual, family, and neighborhood services.
Services impact the overall health, well-being, and functioning of those served. Specifically, seniors are able to avoid isolation while maintaining their independence; teens have support to stay in school and stay out of trouble; children are able to bounce back from the impacts of adverse childhood experiences, demonstrating resiliency.
As a settlement house, the agency is concerned with helping those in the immediate neighborhoods and engaging them to make improvements to their own lives and to their community. The social group work method is used across all programs for children, teens, seniors, and families. This approach exemplifies a democratic, non-hierarchical, social justice, strengths-based practice that uses mutual aid and purposeful activity.
