About Us

Mission:

Economic Mobility Pathways’ (EMPath) mission is to transform people’s lives by helping them move out of poverty, and to provide other institutions with the tools to systematically do the same. In 2009, EMPath developed and began piloting a comprehensive approach, Mobility Mentoring®, an economic mobility coaching practice designed to assist participants in acquiring the resources, skills, and sustained behavior changes needed to attain and preserve their economic independence. Mobility Mentoring is informed by the latest science on poverty, stress, and trauma’s effects on brain and behavior.

The results from Mobility Mentoring were groundbreaking: Graduates of the most intensive program increased their incomes by 92%, going from an average of $23,000 per year to over $45,000 per year. The employment rate shot up from 65% to 97%. Human services organizations across the country noticed these outcomes and reached out to EMPath to learn and improve their own work. Instead of attempting to replicate Mobility Mentoring in other cities ourselves, EMPath decided to partner with organizations well-established within their communities and help them to improve their practice. This led to the creation of the Economic Mobility Exchange™ in 2014, a global learning network of health and human service professionals learning and implementing Mobility Mentoring.

On May 6, 2016, Economic Independence Day, Crittenton Women's Union changed its name to Economic Mobility Pathways, EMPath for short.
