Survivor's Best Friend

  • Mission

To unite shelter animals with survivors of sexual assault and/or domestic violence one adoption at a time, granting both a new leash on life as they embark on the journey of healing together.

    About Us

SBF is a registered nonprofit that covers all adoption-related fees and expenses for the dog or cat that the survivor chooses to adopt.SBF partners with animal shelters, rape crisis centers, and domestic violence centers to raise awareness of the services we provide. Pets can play an integral role in the recovery process after trauma occurs, soothing the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and offering unconditional love and support. SBF recognizes both the power of dogs and cats in healing humans from trauma, as well as the power humans have to rescue dogs and cats from animal shelters, saving their lives from institutional confinement and euthanasia. For these reasons, shelter animals and survivors make the perfect pair, and SBF aims to facilitate the pairing process.
