Horton's Kids, Inc.
Horton’s Kids is a community-based, social change organization that serves 500 children, grades K through 12, living in an isolated and violent neighborhood in southeast Washington, DC called Wellington Park. Horton’s Kids’ mission is to empower at-risk children and prepare them to succeed in school, career, and life through educational opportunities and comprehensive programs tailored to their needs.
- Academic supports ensure children graduate from high school with post-secondary options and include one-on-one tutoring for K-6 graders and older youth programming for 7-12 graders.
- Enrichment activities empower children and share opportunities beyond Ward 8 through an older youth open discussion forum, summer programming, and weekend field trips.
- Health and basic need services promote stability in children’s homes through healthy meals, diaper distribution, dental and vision care, and connections to partner organizations.
Horton’s Kids received the 2011 Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management and was recognized as one of "the best community-based nonprofits in the Washington region" by the Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington. To learn more, please visit www.hortonskids.org.
