SOTENI International, based in Cincinnati, works in rural Kenya to reduce the incidence of HIV/AIDS and improve the lives of those affected. We work with Kenyan partners to design and implement public health interventions that create positive change for individuals and communities. SOTENI strives to share our lessons to improve understanding of and connection to our global community.
SOTENI International works alongside our sister organization SOTENI Kenya in four SOTENI Villages of Hope. We work with individuals who are HIV-positive, their families, and community members. SOTENI’s flagship program is AIDS Barefoot Doctors, who are locally employed community health workers who provide outreach services, including home-based care and support groups, to clients living with HIV/AIDS. AIDS Barefoot Doctors empower clients with the knowledge and skills they need to live long, healthy lives. SOTENI also runs a small clinic and community empowerment center with a local library, and operates community-led income generating activities.
Where does "SOTENI" come from?
"SOTENI" comes from the Swahili phrase "sisi sote" meaning "all of us, together." We seek dedicated individuals and groups to join with us to stop the AIDS pandemic, and bring sustainable development and leadership to the residents of SOTENI's Villages of Hope.
