About Us

Public Lands, treasured and protected is the vision of the Public Lands Interpretive Association (PLIA), headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Our mission is to inspire and educate the public about the natural and cultural heritage resources of America’s Public Lands. At our core, we support the interpretive and educational programs of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in New Mexico and the Southwestern Region of the Forest Service (USDAFS) in Arizona and New Mexico. We further serve a national audience seeking information about recreation opportunities on America’s public lands at www.publiclands.org, which includes a map center that provides specialty and recreation maps for all western states.

For more than 30 years, PLIA has served a diverse audience of public lands users, approaching the dissemination of information from the user's point of view. Our programs include the operation of 11 stores in visitor centers and other federal recreation sites that provide information, educational products and services on behalf of our partner agencies. PLIA operates three campgrounds on the Kaibab National Forest and provides related educational programs in the campgrounds. We also operate the New Mexico Public Lands Information Center in the New Mexico State Office of the Bureau of Land Management in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
