Our Mission

To improve the life trajectory of children facing inequity in Asheville by increasing their opportunities to fall in love with learning, develop the skills necessary to succeed in and out of the classroom, and build the confidence to achieve their dreams.

Who We Serve

Children and families in under-served communities. All of our students qualify for free/reduced lunch during the school year. Most demonstrate some level of academic need as well.

The Challenges We Face

In 2018, Buncombe county exposed an alarming socioeconomic status-related achievement gap in Asheville City Schools: 61% of economically disadvantaged students were performing below Grade Level Proficiency compared to their more affluent peers, of which 19% were off track. In other words, economically disadvantaged students are failing at a rate 3x as much as their more fortunate peers.

Our Approach

Summer Enrichment– Our summer program is a joyful six weeks of structured, summer learning activities that promote healthy youth development. Every student learns to swim, a life-saving skill.

School-Year Programming– We offer tutoring, parent education, host food, book, toy, and clothing drives, throw holiday parties, and more.

Our Results

Students demonstrate consistent 8-12 week gains in reading and math after our 6-week program. During the school year, our students are absent less, receive fewer disciplinary referrals, and 97% graduate High School on-track and on-time.
