    The Hattie M. Strong Foundation provides scholarships to teacher candidates during their student teacher semester, supports former scholarship recipients with classroom materials grants, and provides grants to out-of-school time organizations in the DMV.

    About Us

    HMSF was founded in 1928, by the indomitable Hattie M. Strong. The Foundation focuses on strengthening opportunities within the education system through a grant program (serving out-of-school time programs in the DMV) and the Strong Scholars Program, which provides funds to selected colleges and universities to award scholarships to students training to be teachers, in their student teacher semesters. In addition, former Strong Scholars can apply for classroom materials grants, to support their entry into the teaching profession. over 1400 teachers in training have benefitted from these programs.
