Sikshana is a unique effort at improving learning levels in the public education system at the primary level. Sikshana seeks to create a sustainable and replicable model for an effective and decentralized public school system based on good management practices. Sikshana is a program run by a set of professionals with a view to bringing about a significant change in the public education system at the primary level. The program is implemented in selected schools which are adopted under a formal agreement with the State of Karnataka. Presently there are two clusters of schools – one of 13 schools in and around Bangalore City and the other of 15 schools in and around Kanakapura, which is about 45 Kms south of Bangalore City. The “zero overhead” program is totally built around volunteers and participation of local community.
