Established in 1989, Caridad Center's mission is to upgrade the health, education, and living standards of under-served children and families in PBC. Our vision is to eliminate the cycle of poverty for the families that we serve. The organization's primary goals are:
To improve patients' health and well-being; by providing free access to medical, dental, vision, and specialty services (Caridad Health Clinic); To enhance self-sufficiency; by creating, facilitating, and implementing health education and prevention programs and activities (Caridad Prevention, Education, and Treatment, P.E.T.); To impact educational outcomes for low-income immigrant students; by providing after-school support and enrichment ("La Escuelita" after-school program, girl scouts troop, scholarships, etc.); To foster family stability, especially during a crisis; through social services, community outreach, and emergency services; To decelerate health disparities in PBC; by increasing access to care to medically underserved populations suffering from the social determinants of health; and To reduce healthcare costs; through our collaborative, volunteer-driven, cost-effective service model that diverts uninsured patients from Hospitals and Emergency Rooms and provides free primary and specialty health care on a large scare.
