Fiesta Schoolyards LLC

“Fiesta Schoolyards LLC” is a program of the Lindy Foundation, a nonprofit organization, that is designed to uplift 100 public elementary schoolyards in Philadelphia in ten years. The website is here- www.fiestaschoolyards.org.

The majority of public elementary schools in the City have an empty, bleak asphalt or concrete surface that surrounds the school and is bound by a fence. Precious little, if anything, exists on the schoolyard to engage the minds and bodies of elementary schoolchildren. Traditional playgrounds cost hundreds of thousands up to a million dollars, and take years to complete. Alternatively, a “Fiesta Schoolyard” provides a light-touch, high-impact assortment of colorful play items at a fraction of the cost and within months.

"Fiesta Schoolyards" are available in COVID-sensitive layouts and can include outdoor classrooms, a new necessity at schools nationwide for social distancing. Today disadvantaged students face even greater challenges than before, with technical issues associated with remote learning an added burden. It's more important than ever for the schoolyard to provide youngsters with colorful and engaging play elements.
