About Us

FOLKFINE ART ORGANIZATION (FOFA) is a non-profit organization established to create the platform for students and lecturers from schools, colleges, universities, anthropologist and not limited to the above, as well as individuals (local and foreigners) and company exhibitors in the art and craft industry to inform, acquaint themselves and learn how to hand weave Kente, an African, Ghanaian prestigious art and craft which is a naturally woven piece of cloth that is worn on special occasions which has gained local and in recent times international recognition.

Folkfine art is a group of individuals whose ingenuity carries their traditional original cultural heritage other than an individual creative art. Folkfine Art is a combination of indigenous or traditional art, culture and modernized, refined or dignified appearance of an artifact.

FOFA utmost concern is to showcase the beautiful traditional Kente with its colorful artifact that last longer than you can think and does not fade. The KENTE CLOTH is a traditional hand-woven product that has been modernized to meet today’s need. It conveys traditional values and aesthetic Kente is recognized internationally as the highest expression of African weaving artistry. Kente is used as cloth, bed spread, table cloth, door and window curtains, post cards, shirts, ties, academic gown, choir robe and for decorating books, caps drums etc.

Many schools, colleges, universities, institutions, anthropologist and business entrepreneur in the art and craft industry have shown interest in studying and learning Kente. FOFA, having an in-depth knowledge in this field is welcoming prospective learners to equip themselves to creating the environment for a competitive market to empower and expand the Kente industry.

FOFA, through the KENTE WEAVING PROJECT and KENTE VOCATIONAL TRAINING INSTITUTE promotes either one, two, three, four weeks or between one month to six months to one year in theory and practical training of HAND WOVEN KENTE. The training in Kente comes in two distinct textures: single and double weave.

As part of the educational tool, FOFA is building a KENTE MUSEUM within the KENTE VILLAGE that collects and displays our rich and colorful Kente from our collective past making it the hub of African’s rich woven cultural material.

The drive behind Folkfine Art Organization (FOFA), going into this venture is to assist in the training and organizing capacity building programs, providing information and market and as well as providing logistics in the art and culture industry to sustain the standard of living of Kente weavers.

Formal education is not only the means to tap hidden talents, this is why Folkfine art is using the apprenticeship as another way of acquiring knowledge and skills in hand-woven fabric, though it will be formally taught.

Its mission is to protect, develop and promote art and culture industry as a sustainable social business by educating, enriching and empowering the current and next generation to be innovative in improving their standard of living and reduce poverty through the Art and Culture industry.

Being the first non-profit to give significant attention to Kente weaving in Ghana, FOFA’s goal is to provide advocacy, training and capacity building programs in the art and culture industry thereby unearthing talents for the industry as a source of livelihood to improve the standard of living and reduce poverty in our community. FOFA seeks to protect, develop, and promote the art and culture as a social business to develop and make the industry a sustainable occupation as a way of supporting and empowering the artists in the industry for the promotion of cross culture and art programs.

Folkfine Art Organisation crave to be the preferred art and culture industry making use of folk and fine symbols with a global unique brand design.

The organizations primary focus shall be individuals both young and old or groups interested in learning the hand woven fabric (Kente). FOFA would design support programs and services to enhance and develop their skills and knowledge in this industry.

Membership is open to all who are interested in promoting Art and Culture industry irrespective of gender, age, religion, race and nationality.
