Virginia Gildersleeve International Fund (VGIF)
VGIF is an international public foundation that provides grants globally to fund locally generated projects that advance the rights of women and girls. VGIF was founded in 1969 and has funded over 515 projects in 93 countries, focusing on issues ranging from education and health to economic empowerment and human rights.
Historically, VGIF has been a volunteer-driven organization and recently adopted a Strategic Plan to lead the Board to becoming a governance body and move operations to the professional staff.
VGIF is engaged in capacity building to further expand its international grant-making program and to strengthen support and oversight of its grantees.
VGIF's work is funded by its members, individual donors and groups along with foundations and corporations. VGIF is and ECOSOC credentialed NGO with the UN and uses its consultative status to inform the UN on key issues affecting women and girls in local communities around the world, and bringing information on UN policies and discussions to VGIF members and grantees.
