    • Mission

    Our mission is to make our shelter animals happier and give them a better chance at adoption. Since we are an all-volunteer group, we cannot do that without dedicated volunteers. We need you, and so do the animals! There are many ways you can help at the Trenton Animal Shelter including walking dogs, playing and training cats, grooming the animals, taking picture-perfect pictures for posting, writing cute and attention-getting bios for the animals, fundraising, planning events, assisting our trainer, assisting with the petfood pantry, record keeping, and, of course, donating money.

    About Us

    The purpose of the Trenton Animal Shelter Volunteer Program is to promote animal awareness within the community and to educate the public about responsible pet care, ownership, and safety for and around animals and the community. Providing residents of Trenton and Mercer County the opportunity to interact with animals at the shelter helps to increase live releases for all shelter animals. Interaction provides meaningful insight regarding the personality and behavior of the animals, which is beneficial in finding the animals a forever home. Our goals are to:

    • Provide a shelter for homeless animals surrounded by loving care from our volunteers and work toward preparing our animals for adoption.
    • Humanely and temporarily house and care for adoptable animals and ensure they go to their new home as quickly and safely as possible.
    • Provide a clean and safe environment for animals, staff, and the public
    • Handle animals with the least amount of restraint as necessary
    • Treat all animals with love and respect
    • Return lost or otherwise missing animals to their owners
    • Adopt unclaimed stray animals into loving forever homes
    • Educate the public on responsible pet ownership
    • Be a partner with our community to protect and advocate for animals
    • Be a true service to the community
