Project Wreckless

Project Wreckless was created to stop the cycle of at-risk youth dropping out of school or participating in high-risk behavior because of lack of accountability and support. Instead we offer education and mentorship for the most at-risk youth in our communities: gang members, addicts, youth with a criminal record or who are battling mental illness. We help the youth who are considered “too far gone” for many other programs.

Over the course of one year, we work with 18 at-risk youths to learn, understand, and utilize the “tools for life” that Project Wreckless instills. By rotating through 7 unique job functions (Auto Technician, Program Manager, HR, Accounting, Parts Manager, Safety Manager, Community Manager) our youth learn the basics of auto mechanics, teamwork, management, job training, and most importantly, life skills.

Our support extends beyond the shop, by providing guidance in getting back to school or helping youth get their GED and find sustainable work. Project Wreckless instills these skills in the participants through the experience of DOING! Talking about the problem is not the solution; taking action is what changes lives. We expect more from our youth so they can gain the confidence to expect more of themselves.
