About Us

Simmons College School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) was founded in 1902. SLIS is located in Boston, MA, in Boston's Fenway Neighborhood. We also have two satellite campuses - one in South Hadley, MA on the Mount Holyoke campus and one in Amherst, MA at The Eric Carle Museum. SLIS is nationally accredited, and it's programs are ranked in the top 10 by US News and World Report.

We offer a Master of Science in Library and Information Science. You can design your own program or choose an optional concentration in Archival Management, Cultural Heritage Informatics, Information Science & Technology, or School Library Teacher.

Our Master of Science program is very flexible with full- and part-time options, evening and weekend classes, blended and online courses, post-master's certificates, continuing education and PhD options. Our faculty and alumni are distinguished experts in their fields and have held top leadership positions in every major library and information science professional association. We have one of the largest alumni networks in the field, providing lifelong professional collaboration and support. We offer a variety of options for experiential learning, ranging from in-class projects to semester-long internships to pre-professional opportunities.

We also offer a Master of Arts in Children's Literature and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Children. The MA program allows you to apply varied theoretical frameworks to historical and contemporary texts to discover their imaginative ambitions and critical successes. Small group critiques, individualized mentorships, and grounding in the publishing industry fortify your developing career as a writer in the MFA program.
