  • Mission

Gift of Life Howie's House serves as a "home away from home" for transplant patients and their families by providing temporary, affordable lodging, and supportive services to those who travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for transplant-related care. Our Volunteer Program is a critical component of our mission. Whether it's cooking a meal, answering the phone, transporting our guests, or thanking our donors, Howie's House volunteers are the "Heart of the House."

    About Us

Gift of Life Donor Program is the largest organ procurement organization (OPO) in the United States, leading the nation in the number of organ donors since 2008. Serving more than 11.3 million people across the eastern half of Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and Delaware, we help and heal lives by coordinating the recovery and distribution of organs and tissues used in life-saving and life-enhancing transplants.

Many living outside of the Gift of Life service area travel to the Philadelphia area from outside the region for transplant-related care. Gift of Life Howie's House serves as a "home away from home" for these transplant patients and their families. Howie's House House not only provides housing but also home-cooked meals, transportation to and from local hospitals, and a community atmosphere for patients and families.
