About Us

Sustainability Park Istra is a charity project in a beautiful Istria peninsula. Our primary objective is to help the local community in Istria region. We support them in any way we can, especially their sustainable activities such are sustainable tourism, ecofarming and preservation of local natural and cultural heritage. There is a huge potential for sustainable development in the region, but new knowledge and young energy is needed to move forward. This is exactly what we would like to bring here.

In 2017 Sustainability Park Istra received Energy Globe Award, one of the most important international environmental awards, as the best environmental project in Slovenia.

We will help people in need, help locals with farming and renovation of traditional stone houses, organize workshops for kids, help in an animal shelter, help local Red Cross organization, participate at local cultural events, clean overgrown terraces and paths, organize clean-up actions...To do all that we need many helping hands.

Our work is really diverse, so we are not looking for specific profiles, but we are searching for volunteers who have enthusiasm, motivation and will to learn new skills. We will organize meetings with locals about the help they need in spring 2018. After that we will be able to give you more details about the voluntary work that we will be doing.

One of the works we already know we will be doing in 2018 is a renovation of an old building in Kastelec village. We will make it into a volunteers' home and our project's headquarters. Volunteers will be welcome to help and learn some basic construction skills in the process.

Adriatic coast with its many beaches is less than 30 minutes by car from any village in Istria. Same distance away are world level climbing area of Osp valley, historical coastal town of Piran and UNESCO World Heritage site Škocjan caves. There are numerous trekking and cycling options in Slovenian and Croatian Istria. Towns of Ljubljana, Venice and Julian Alps with Triglav national park are 1 to 2 hours away. For our volunteers we've organized charity discounts for some of Slovenia's most interesting activities, such are Soča Valley's canyoning and rafting or hiking in caves of Škocjan. In the free time after lunch and in the evenings we share with one another our knowledge, talents, sing by the bonfire, play social games, walk on the slack line, go swimming, climbing, play volleyball, read, watch movies and talk. You are welcome to share your talents, skills, stories…
