About Us

WINTER is an economic development agency that provides high-wage employment training and placement to low-income community women and expanded its scope significantly when it opened the Rosie the Riveter Charter High School. Located in Long Beach, this new school will delivers on a mission that reflects WINTER’s values: to develop the personal, social and academic potential of all students, while providing training in careers in the building trades. The overarching goal of the school’s curriculum, which integrates California Standards into lesson plans that emphasize the construction and building trades, is to provide students who have not succeeded in traditional public schools with an opportunity to become socially successful while achieving the academic levels necessary for high school graduation and success in registered apprenticeship programs. Bolstering the planned academic activities, WINTER implements school site-based programs and initiatives designed to help all families at risk, thereby endeavoring to reduce the youth crime rate in Long Beach and surrounding areas and promote community transformation.
