Los Angeles LGBT Center's LifeWorks Program
About LifeWorks: LifeWorks is the youth development and mentoring program of the LA LGBT Center. We offer one on one, peer, and group mentoring opportunities for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning youth ages 12-24. Our goal is to help LGBTQ youth to realize their goals and dreams with a safe space, positive and affirming role models, and workshops & activities that are fun and educational.
About LifeWorks CAN: LifeWorks Community Action Network is a program of the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the world's largest provider of programs and services for LGBT people. The mission of the LifeWorks Community Action Network is to support school based LGBTQA groups in becoming self-sustaining and developing leadership that utilizes communication skills, social actions and trainings to impact their communities.
We attend weekly GSA or other like group meetings at various high schools around LA and conduct a 10 week leadership program for them. In this program we help teach the students to take leadership in their schools by helping them learn how to tell their stories of struggle, strength and leadership and come together to take action. This also helps foster an environment of compassion and kindness between people, and gives them the tools to make an impact in their school and in their society.
We also incorporate collaborative activities and interactive learning in order to build community and make people feel more comfortable to be themselves, connect with each other and participate in leadership both inside and outside of the classroom.
