Guardian Angel Settlement Association
The mission of Guardian Angel Settlement Association is to serve those living in poverty by helping them improve the quality of their lives and achieve economic independence.
Guardian Angel Settlement Association (GASA) has been serving those in need for more than 150 years. Established in 1859 by the Daughters of Charity as an orphanage for young immigrant girls, we have evolved into an agency serving children, teens, families and older adults.
We work daily to educate and empower those we serve through appropriate programs and services. We are a constant sign of hope in the inner city due largely to the effort and support of the board of directors, support of the United Way, a dedicated and professional staff as well as numerous volunteers throughout the St. Louis area who devote more than 11,000 hours annually.
Child Development Center
At GASA we are committed to: facilitating mental, physical and social growth, kindergarten readiness, and empowering parents. Our child development center focuses on early reading and fostering a lifelong love of learning. All of our parents work or attend school, which puts us in an important support role for these hard working families.
Social Service Programs
We work towards moving our clients towards self-sufficiency in a number of ways. We have one of the oldest and largest client-choice food pantries in South St. Louis. In addition to this we run a thrift store and clothing bank to ensure all those we serve have the basic things needed in life. We also provide utility and rental assistance and prescription aid and health awareness programs. All of our clients receive self-sufficiency counseling and referrals giving them the needed knowledge and skills necessary to improve their life quality of life.
