The Troutdale Historical Society is organized and shall be operated exclusively to gather, preserve, and make available museum, record, and other material relating to the history of the community of Troutdale, the northern portion of the Sandy River, and nearby areas to stimulate an interest in, and knowledge of the locality's past.
The Troutdale Historical Society is a community-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, and sharing the rich history of Troutdale and the greater Columbia River Gorge region. Through our three museums, the Barn Exhibit Hall Museum, the Harlow House Museum, and the Depot Rail Museum / Gateway to the Gorge Visitor Center, we connect people of all ages with the stories, artifacts, and places that shaped our town.
Our work is rooted in education, stewardship, and community engagement. We serve local residents, students, families, researchers, and visitors by offering rotating exhibits, educational programs, public events, and hands-on learning opportunities. We value inclusivity, historical accuracy, and collaboration, and we strive to make local history accessible, welcoming, and relevant.
Volunteers are the heart of our organization. Whether greeting visitors, serving as docents, assisting with collections, helping at events, or supporting behind-the-scenes projects, our volunteers play a vital role in preserving Troutdale’s past for future generations. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds who share an interest in history, community service, and meaningful civic engagement.
