Organization Overview

Since 1982, The Permanent Endowment Fund for Martha’s Vineyard (“The Permanent Endowment”) has served as the Island’s publicly-supported community foundation. The Permanent Endowment’s funds – contributed by individuals, families, and businesses – benefit local charities and students.

The Permanent Endowment is one of Martha’s Vineyard’s largest funders. Through its two main grantmaking programs – support for local charities and scholarships for Island students – the mission of the Permanent Endowment is to provide support for Island residents and causes in perpetuity while being responsive to the philanthropic needs of the community.

Currently, the Permanent Endowment includes 10 grant funds and 18 scholarship funds totaling nearly $8 million. Since its inception, the Permanent Endowment has made more than 950 grants to local non-profits totaling nearly $2 million, and 640 scholarships totaling more than $1.3 million. The Permanent Endowment also awards the annual Creative Living Award, given to individuals who embody the spirit of long-time Island resident and artist Ruth Bogan.
