  • About Us

Crowell Hilaka was a Girl Scout Camp in Richfield Ohio that was sold to the Richfield Joint Recreation District and is now a public park. The National Park Service has it listed as Crowell Hilaka Historic District. Jim Kirby (Kirby Vacuum fame) had sold the southern half to the Girl Scouts in 1937. Kirby built a patented lake for water to turn his mill wheel to power his workshop and also generated hydroelectric power. He invented many things, and we work to showcase the history, historic buildings and to preserve the old growth trees. There is an Unground Railroad connection prior to Kirby owning it.

The northern half has its own unique history and features historic buildings along with a second small lake.

The governing entity has changed the name to Richfield Heritage Preserve.
