DuMond Conservancy For Primates & Tropical Forest inc.

About Us

If you love cute monkeys and teens with disabilities, this is the volunteer opportunity for you! The DuMond Conservancy is in need of a regular twice-a-week volunteer who can chaperone students with disabilities to help them learn about animals, conservation, and acquire some independent skills. We are looking for someone who is willing to volunteer from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays each week to help mentor, supervise, and work with a small group of developmentally-delayed teens to complete simple tasks such as cutting fruit for the monkeys and cleaning. A volunteer is needed on a weekly basis until May 2016. DuMond is the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit science and education affiliate of Monkey Jungle, a primate-focused wildlife park and discovery center located in South Dade. A team of staff, volunteers, and students work together to care for a unique colony of 50+ adorable owl monkeys living in a secluded area of the monkey jungle forest. Students from Miami-Dade County Public Schools are transported to Monkey Jungle as a part of their curriculum for independent living.
