  • About Us

After the degradation of the Dust Bowl the country came together to protect our soil resources by creating districts across the nation focused on soil conservation. In the 1970s, the mission of these districts was expanded to include water quality because of the growing understanding of that resource's dependence on soil conservation. Iowa has 100 of these Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and CDI supports the districts through public education, commissioner development, policy, on-the-ground conservation, conservation practice promotion, events and more.
