    The GEC mission is to help each individual reach his or her maximum potential; and to help families cope with the responsibility of caring for a disabled family member at home. To achieve its mission, well qualified and caring staff provide clinical, therapeutic, educational, social, residential, recreation and support services designed to stimulate the development of the whole person, fostering self-esteem and pride in accomplishment. GEC also reaches out to public schools, local businesses, political and community leaders, communicty agencies and organizations, other health care facilities and colleges. GEC provides oppportunities for parent and community involvement through membership, fundraising and volunteer activities. GEC is actively involved in planning, development and advocacy on behalf of people with developmental disabilities throughout New York City. Funding sources include contracts with local, state and federal government agencies; medicare and medicaid; private insurance; self-pay; voluntary contributions; private foundations and in-house special events.
