    The mission of the Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) is to empower the genealogical and family history community, especially its societies and organizations, by advocating for the preservation and access of records and providing resources that enable genealogical organizations to succeed in pursuing their missions.

    FGS serves the genealogical community by:

    • supporting the needs of its member societies, libraries, archives, and other member organizations,
    • connecting and educating the genealogical community at its annual conference, which hosts over 1500 attendees
    • advocating for records preservation and access
    • marshaling the resources of its member organizations
    FGS was founded in 1976 and represents the members of hundreds of genealogical societies.
