The mission of the Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS)
is to empower the genealogical and family history community, especially its
societies and organizations, by advocating for the preservation and access of
records and providing resources that enable genealogical organizations to
succeed in pursuing their missions.
FGS serves the
genealogical community by:
- supporting the needs
of its member societies, libraries, archives, and other member organizations,
- connecting
and educating the genealogical community at its annual conference, which
hosts over 1500 attendees
- advocating
for records preservation and access
- marshaling the
resources of its member organizations
FGS was founded in 1976 and
represents the members of hundreds of genealogical societies.
