  • Mission

Our mission is to restore the health of our oceans and promote citizen science. We aim to increase seagrass distribution across the Mediterranean and make sure that in all those places that were previously covered with meadows we plant them again to reconstruct a natural key habitat for the eco systems! We are trying to find working long term solutions for Marine debris and get all water-sports communities to come together and collect Marine debris while we provide the necessary knowledge and structure to make sure the collected plastic doesn't just get dumped but reused in a variety of creative ways giving back a resource to the communities. We are also monitoring invasive species and the biodiversity around seagrasses.

    About Us

Project Manaia was set up after it's founder spent 15 years working for Greenpeace and other NGO's. Seeing the importance of citizen science, he wanted to create a platform (research vessel) for scientists to come on board and use the equipment, contribute to the data collection and work with the local communities in the Mediterranean Sea to continue the work we are promoting to look after the ocean. We hope to expand our fleet of research boats to other locations in the future. This year our goal is to train the dive centers to re/plant posidonia oceanica in Italy!
