Compeer of Johnson County

  • Mission

Compeer's mission is to reduce the loneliness and isolation of adults receiving mental health treatment by developing structured friendships with trained community volunteers. We envision a day when all communities embrace individuals and their families living with mental health challenges.

    About Us

You and your new friend will spend about an hour together once a week (or 2 hours every two weeks). We need volunteers of all ages, minimum 23 years old. Training, ongoing education and support are provided by the Compeer staff.

Compeer volunteers make a positive difference in someone’s life. Your friendship provides a sense of connection and companionship for yourself and for your match friend. Each person has gained a new friend with whom to enjoy and explore different aspects of life, learn from, and grow with.

"When I am out with my friend, I feel I am part of what is happening in a busy world and I am not alone. I see other people together and I no longer feel different because I am with my volunteer friend."

"I would highly recommend Compeer as a volunteer opportunity. It provides situations for you to learn so many things too!"
