Retrofit A Million
To Retrofit 1M energy and water efficiency products in communities of modest means; lowering their utility bills and reducing pollution in and around their overburdened neighborhoods. Providing service-learning opportunities that bring communities together to engage, empower, and educate on the health, economic and environmental benefits of resource conservation and the clean energy economy.
Retrofit A Million directly supports and catalyzes the power of campus-based and community-based organizations with project planning support, water/energy efficiency products and seed funding to develop service-learning opportunities in their communities. The Community Retrofit Day of Action (RDA) is Retroit's signature community engagement, advocacy, and leader activation program. During this service-learning opportunity "harvest teams" (made of volunteers) canvass an assigned communities to deliver direct-to-door efficiency investment packages; performing water-kit and lighting retrofits. Exchanging old "dirty" inefficient devices for brand new efficient "clean" bulbs and water kits, FREE OF CHARGE, to the residents. In addition, the harvest teams conduct baseline energy assessments, and invite recipients to complete an impact profile and environmental awareness survey. Following a 90-day adjustment period, Retrofit staff reconnect with recipients, via telephone to determine monetary savings and to provide additional green solutions supplied by the Retrofit Fund and partners. This follow-up also allows Retrofit A Million staff to ensure the integrity of the efficiency investment packages and further increase awareness of other energy and water conservation options.
