Ants in the Pants Productions is a children’s non-profit organization whose mission is to give youngsters the opportunity to develop their creative writing by engaging and working with professional actors and artists. Our aim is two-fold: to help students find their own creative voice, and by doing so help build strong communities.
Our programs take students through the process of creating their own story by igniting their imaginations and self-esteem. We begin by exploring an area of interest that the student has, something like “Superheroes” or “Dinosaurs”. The student is then guided to create a one-to-two-page story based on that subject. Each story is then transformed by a group of professional performers, into real-life art forms such as skits, songs, and all forms of theatre, both live and digital. We believe through the process of seeing their work come to life, the student will attain confidence in the power of their ideas.
Our class is a unique blend of creative writing, education, and community involvement hosted by a team of experienced actors and educators. The spaces we use for our workshops are typically provided by the schools we work with, and by our partners.
Ants in the Pants productions teaches creative writing to students in grades 2-7. Programming is available for 6 week, 9 week, or 13 week-long creative writing workshops where students learn the fundamentals of storytelling through games and exercises. After the last workshop class, Ants in the Pants cast members take all of the stories and adapt them into a live show for the school and surrounding community. Each student will have at least one story adapted in a fully staged show.
