    ​Literacy Chicago's mission is to empower individuals to achieve greater self-sufficiency through language and literacy instruction.

    About Us

    Established in 1968, thousands of adults have participated in the broad range of programs Literacy Chicago has developed, including Basic Literacy, GED preparation, English as a Second Language, Workforce Development, Citizenship classes, Digital Literacy, and numerous bridge programs. Dedicated tutor volunteers contribute significantly to Literacy Chicago's success and make a big difference in the lives of the students they work with.
