Food for Thought-Denver

  • Mission

Food for Thought Denver was created with the sole purpose of feeding Denver's low-income children. We are bridging the weekend gap between federally funded school breakfast and lunch programs they receive at school. By providing nutrious food to students and their families, we strive to increase children's health, wellbeing and learning abilities. We are helping the entire family be successful, which can have an incredibly positive and far-reaching impact.

    About Us

At this time, Food for Thought-Denver supports 8 elementary schools and one high school in Denver. The bag we distribute to each child in the school is called a PowerSack, and contains enough non-perishable food to feed a family of four two meals over the weekend.

Created with the sole purpose of feeding Denver's underprivileged children, Food for Thought is privately funded through donations and grants from private individuals, companies and foundations. Of those donations, 100% - every penny - is used to purchase food or materials to support the program.

Our partner, Metropolitan State Univeristy provides space where we fill our Powersacks each Friday morning from 7:00-9:30 am. We also pack at two of our elementary school partner sites. Another generous donor provides the trucking services to deliver the 3,800 Powersacks to the students at the schools we serve. Volunteer opportunities are available at four different locations.
