The PAA is a volunteer social organization run by a hardworking group of dedicated parents. The PAA is open to families of The New York Presbyterian Hospital, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Rockefeller University, WCMC, their affiliate institutions, and alumni of these training programs. There are more than 150 families and 250 children who benefit from this organization. The PAA provides indoor and outdoor play areas, sponsors a Play-and-Learn Co-op for children ages 24 months to 4 years, discounted music and dance classes, weekly playgroups for toddlers, field trips to places like the Bronx Zoo and the Coney Island Aquarium, and fun parties for PAA families throughout the year. We hold board meetings every second Tuesday of the month. Additionally, we provide our members with a quarterly newsletter.
Since our inception in 1973, the Play Area Association has grown from a handful of New York Hospital parents to a network of many families, serving personnel in numerous areas of local hospitals and affiliated institutions. Now, with a membership of more than 150 families, we continue to provide more services to meet the growing needs of our member families.
With our growth, we recognized the need to reorganize our governing practices and to become legally recognized as an official not-for-profit organization, so in 2003, the PAA became an incorporation. In that same year, we started a website to better serve and communicate with our members.
The most important part of our history is the families we serve. The people we serve with our programs, events, trips, classes, and parties all add to our rich and valuable heritage. We appreciate their membership and their time and efforts which are given so willingly.
We are posting a job listing on Idealist for a preschool teacher.
