About Us

IMPACT DC stands for “Improving Pediatric Asthma Care in the District of Columbia,” and our mission is to improve the care and outcomes of disadvantaged, urban, and principally minority children and adolescents with asthma in the DC metro region while serving as a model program for the nation. IMPACT DC seeks to reduce the morbidity of inner city pediatric asthma with a multi-faceted approach.

We run the IMPACT DC Asthma Clinic, a unique Emergency Department-based asthma care source that has operated at Children's National Health System since April 2002. The clinic sees children who are heavily dependent on EDs for episodic care, providing a comprehensive source of asthma education, medical care, and care coordination designed to steer them towards healthier lives and more effective primary longitudinal asthma care.  IMPACT DC also participates in community events and health fairs, and provides asthma education to student, parent and teacher groups throughout the Washington, DC area, as well as to local health care providers.

IMPACT DC conducts a number of research studies focused on pediatric asthma, including clinical trials and observational studies, designed to better understand pediatric asthma and improve outcomes. We participate in multi-site studies funded by the National Institutes of Health through the Inner City Asthma Consortium, Multicenter Airway Research Collaboration, and ORBEX.
