  • Mission

"To Honor. To Educate. To Inspire." To honor Kansas sports heroes who practiced the values needed to succeed in sports and in life; and whose accomplishments brought pride to themselves, their communities, and the entire state of Kansas. To educate youth of how the heroes learned the values which helped them in all areas of their lives. To inspire youth to practice the values learned through sports, to help them develop into tomorrow's leaders and to succeed in all they endeavor to do.

    About Us

Founded in 1961 by the Kansas Legislature as a part of the state's Centennial celebration, the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame is located in the Old Town district of Wichita. A 27,000 square-foot museum highlighting the state's sports individuals and teams provides an impressive showplace for honoring the state's sports heroes. Special events and ceremonies are an integral part of the programming aimed at providing a statewide outreach program for youth. The Hall of Fame is operated by a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) Kansas corporation, under the governance of a Governor-appointed Board of Trustees. Photos and memorabilia highlight legendary Kansas sports heroes like Barry Sanders, Walter Johnson, Dean Smith, Wilt Chamberlain, Jim Ryun, Lynette Woodard, Jackie Stiles, Gary Spani, Gale Sayers, Dave Stallworth and hundreds more. Special displays recognize Olympians, and world and national champions. College and high school sports histories are prominent throughout the museum. Rental facilities, in addition to a well-stocked gift shop make the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame an attractive destination for private parties, school groups, teams, organizations and sports fans of all ages.
