The Literacy Volunteers of Kent County (LVKC) is a nationally accredited adult literacy program that has been serving the families of Kent County and its surrounding communities since 1980. It is sponsored by the Coventry Public Library and is a non-profit organization affiliated with ProLiteracy, Inc. ProLiteracy, a national organization headquartered in Syracuse, NY, was established in 2002 through a merger of Literacy Volunteers of America and Laubach Literacy International, two national, long-established adult literacy organizations. LVKC provides free one-to-one tutoring to adults whose low English literacy skills prevent them from functioning effectively in their homes, workplaces, communities, or as citizens of the United States.
