American Family Therapy Academy, Inc.

The American Family Therapy Academy, Inc. (AFTA) was founded in 1977 as a not for profit tax exempt organization. The founders were a small group of mental health professionals who had been active during the early years when the field of family therapy was emerging. Since its beginning with esteemed family therapists, teachers and researchers, AFTA has diversified its intellectual capital by including significant contributors from allied fields. These experienced professionals have a common interest in developing their ideas and learning from each other. AFTA has become a forum for discussion and scrutiny of issues in the clinical practice and teaching of family therapy and in research and theory building on therapeutic and family systems and their contexts. AFTA is governed by an elected Board of Directors.
