The eighth annual Hero Dog Awards honors the heroes at both ends of the leash, with seven categories of working dogs such as Military, Guide/Hearing, Law Enforcement/Arson, Search & Rescue, Therapy, Service and Emerging Hero. Over 650 guests attend the Hero Dog Awards gala each September at the Beverly Hilton, and the show airs on Hallmark Channel in October. All proceeds from the gala and ticket sales go back to American Humane's lifesaving programs for animals in need. American Humane in the first animal welfare organization in the U.S., founded in 1877. Other programs at American Humane include Shelter to Service, which provides shelter dogs turned service animals to veterans suffering from PTSD and TBI injuries, and Humane Hollywood, which ensures the safety of animals on film and television sets. The Hero Dog Awards will have over 100 veterans in attendance free of charge.
