Young Performers Theatre
For over thirty years, Young Performers Theatre has been committed to building confidence, tolerance, responsibility, life skills and a lasting love of theatre and the arts in Bay Area youth, regardless of economic or social circumstances.
Primary ObjectivesYoung Performers Theatre has three areas of concentration:
1. Year-Round Performances
YPT casts both children and adult actors in four main-stage shows per year. Participating in theatre is an invaluable learning experience for children, building confidence, poise and discipline for the future. On the audience side, kids who see actors their own age on stage are inspired to take an active role theatre and the arts, instilling an appreciation for life.
2. Theatre Arts Conservatory
YPT offers performance, musical theatre and storytelling classes to children ages 3-15. Educators now agree that theatre education stimulates verbal and social skills, reading readiness, self-confidence and creative problem solving. The YPT Academy gives many children their first chance in the spotlight when they perform for parents and friends, and students from the age of nine are invited to audition for YPT mainstage productions.
3. Theatre In Education (TIE)
For more than two decades, Young Performers Theatre has been sending theatre professionals into child development centers across the Bay Area to provide theatre and storytelling classes to poor and underserved preschoolers. The TIE program offers all the benefits of the Theatre Arts Academy to children who otherwise would have no access to arts education.
