About Us

Trekking for Kids, a U.S.-registered non-profit, organizes expeditions that focus on service to the less fortunate: the orphaned and vulnerable children living in the shadows of the world’s most coveted trekking destinations. A TFK expedition combines service to others with a trekking adventure for socially conscious hikers in some of the world’s most remote and iconic locations.

Since its inaugural trek in 2005, TFK Trekkers have spread hope across five continents, improving the lives of hundreds of children through high-impact infrastructure and sustainability projects on orphanages where Treks take place. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised by Trekkers from their families, friends, and colleagues to fund the projects, and 100% of donations goes directly to support the orphanage projects.

During a recent trek to Everest Base Camp, Trekkers funded the building of a new floor onto an existing orphanage at Bhaktapur, giving children much needed additional bedroom and study space. In Thailand, a new dormitory at the Warm Heart Children’s Center, funded by a TFK expedition, will give even more children the opportunity for education and a bright future. A totally renovated orphanage in Tanzania, in the shadows of Mt. Kilimanjaro, enabled countless street children to have a place to call home. Other recent expeditions funded renovations on a building in Romania to give children in Brasov a longer-term place to live, and work on an orphanage outside Cusco, Peru, provides modern bathroom facilities and solar-heated water.

Recently completed trips included a TFK Signature Trek to Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in Fbruary, 2013 and upcoming trips include Machu Picchu in Peru in June, 2013, and Everest Base Camp in the fall, 2013. For more information, visit www.trekkingforkids.org or call 301-213-3565 or 202-651-1387.
