    About Us

Our Story began in 1969, our founders, a group of volunteers and parents in Prince George’s County, formed New Horizons Supported Services, Inc. This dedicated group was committed to improving the lives of their family members with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

When New Horizons first began, the obstacles were many and resources few. Parents had insufficient options for their children with special needs, leading our founders to seek out better alternatives for their loved ones. Their focus was on equal opportunities.

Back then, getting this equal chance was no easy task. There were very few educational or employment opportunities. Our founders fought hard to persevere, demanding quality opportunities within the community and setting a standard of care that continues even now. New Horizon’s initial budget was a mere $694 that included thousands of volunteer hours. Our agency has since flourished, now boasting a budget of nearly $5 million.
