About Us

Project Ishmael is a small immigration legal clinic for children located in First Grace United Methodist Church (www.FirstGraceUMC.org) in Mid City New Orleans.

Our 3 main goals are:

 1) to meet some of the immigration legal needs of children in New Orleans through direct representation and education,

 2) to coordinate volunteer attorneys to help meet the diverse legal needs of women and children who currently live at Hagar's House, and

 3) to challenge systemic injustices that allow children and their families to be separated, harrassed, deported or incaracerated based on skin color or immigration status.

Project Ishmael is a program of the nonprofit First Grace Community Alliance, which also parents Hagar's House (www.HagarsHouseNOLA.org) and was birthed in 2014 as a partner program of Hagar's House (www.HagarsHouseNOLA.org), which opened in 2007. Hagar's House is a sanctuary for women and children in New Orleans that provides an open and empowering residential community, resource coordination, and a safe space to transition into permanent housing. (To reach Hagar's House, please call (504) 210-5064 or email HagarsHouse@gmail.com.)
