Brooklyn Institute for Social Research

  • About Us

Founded in 2012, the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research (BISR) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing rigorous and accessible liberal arts education to the general public. We work in conjunction with local businesses, New York cultural institutions, and public spaces to offer courses in a variety of disciplines, while creating an institution that offers scholars an opportunity to pursue their research in an era increasingly characterized by contingent academic labor and the restructuring of the academy. We are committed to lowering the barriers of access to high-quality education so that the deepest forms of intellectual engagement are more widely available.
