Foundation for Women in Development-Rwenzori (FOWID-R) Reg. No.CBO/1431 was founded in 2014 by six small scale women farmers and one man who realized women’s rights were being violated by men when it comes to selling of their crop harvest. They are the women who do the core in planting, weeding and harvesting of crops but when it comes to selling and harvesting, men take advantage, do the selling and take away with the money for their own and some use it for drinking alcohol leaving women with all household obligations without resources to meet their basic needs especially in sustaining their children and other household requirements.
Women in the developing world make up 43% of the agricultural labor force but own only 15% of the land. This is unsettling, but not surprising.
