Imagine Planet fills a need in the Jackson community for a place to experience hands on science. Access to informal out of school science education has been shown to be a vital factor in educational and career success in the sciences. As 36% of Jackson is living at or near the poverty level (source: United Way), there are many barriers to access. Imagine Planet addresses lack of transportation by being on a bus line and in easy walking distance of many neighborhoods. We do not charge admission and welcome families with members with disabilities such as ADHD, autism, developmental delays, and mental illness. Our animals, rocks, fossils, magnets, electric activities, and astronomy activities are among the science resources available to the public and for outreach in schools.
