A Little Bit About Us
Established in 1990, Mon Valley Habitat for Humanity is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope.
What We Do
We are dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing safe, affordable homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.
The ReStore, which opened in Morgantown, WV in 2007, takes donations of new and lightly used furniture and other housing materials, as well as building materials and other miscellaneous things. These donated items are then sold at a discounted rate to the general public, and the proceeds go towards funding the construction of Habitat homes in Mon Valley Habitat’s service area.
Who We Serve
We serve Marion, Monongalia and Preston counties in West Virginia, providing affordable homeownership opportunities to low and very low-income families, as well as the community’s vulnerable elderly and Veteran populations.
Not only changing lives through shelter, when partnering with us, Habitat homeowners receive financial education and knowledge on how to maintain their homes. Since 1990, Mon Valley Habitat has completed 57 homes and provided housing for approximately 232 individuals.
Our core principle as a non-profit organization is to build communities up - motivating strength and independence in everyone. An important part of our mission is to highlight the bigger picture - strong and stable homes help build strong and stable communities.
Mon Valley Habitat for Humanity works through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials. Currently, we host approximately 13,000 volunteer hours per year. The volunteers help on committees, with construction and in the ReStore.
