About Us

LCN's mission is to empower adults to improve literacy skills or learn English as a foreign language. Trained volunteers and teachers provide tutoring and classes for adult learners at little or no cost. We collaborate with multiple local organizations to deliver such services. We provide this service without regard to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

Founded in 1984, the vision of The Literacy Council of Norristown (LCN) is improving lives through literacy. LCN is a non-profit Organization that provides instruction in Adult Basic Education (ABE), English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), and GED (high school equivalency) to adult learners in our community via classes and volunteer tutors.

Last year alone, LCN served 293 students, including 234 students in our ESOL (English) classes from 45 different countries resulting in 6,561 hours of instruction. 66 tutors assisted 63 students in our One-on-One Tutoring programs, resulting in 1,667 hours of instruction.
