PERIWINKLE FOUNDATION

  • Mission

The Periwinkle Foundation develops and provides programs that positively change the lives of children, young adults and families who are challenged by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and are cared for at Texas Children’s Hospital. Periwinkle’s mission is realized through a continuum of camps, arts, and survivor programs which accompany a child and their family from diagnosis, through treatment, and into remission.

    About Us

The Periwinkle Foundation, named after a plant used to make the chemotherapy agent vincristine, was founded in 1983 by Dr. Paul Gerson to provide children at Texas Children’s Hospital with the opportunity to "just feel normal" for one week at Camp Periwinkle. Since inception, Periwinkle’s signature program - Camp Periwinkle - has allowed over 5, 000 campers to experience a week of pure joy, freedom and emotional healing.

Today, Periwinkle camps, arts and survivor programs touch more than 14,000 children, teens and families annually. The Periwinkle Foundation’s programs have proven to exceed initial expectations and are recognized by physicians as a critical part of treatment and recovery for children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Now celebrating 38 years, The Periwinkle Foundation is committed to offering positive and life-changing programs through a community of healing to create stronger survivors.
